Wembanyama Injury As Blazers level Series In Game 2

Post by : Sophia Matthew

Victor Wembanyama was placed in the NBA’s concussion protocol after a heavy fall during Game 2 of the playoff series, as the Portland Trail Blazers rallied to defeat the San Antonio Spurs 106-103 and level the series at 1-1. The incident has raised concerns for San Antonio, as their star player’s availability for upcoming games remains uncertain.

Wembanyama’s injury occurred in the second quarter when he was fouled while driving to the basket. He lost balance and fell face-first onto the court, with his jaw making hard contact with the floor. The 22-year-old remained down briefly before getting up and walking to the locker room. He was later ruled out and entered into concussion evaluation, with further updates expected after medical assessment.

Before leaving the game, Wembanyama recorded five points, four rebounds, one assist, and one block in limited minutes. His absence was a major setback for the Spurs, who had been in control for much of the game and even built a double-digit lead early in the fourth quarter.

However, Portland staged a strong comeback in the final minutes. The Trail Blazers tightened their defense and held San Antonio without a field goal in the closing stretch, finishing the game on an impressive run to secure the win. Scoot Henderson led Portland with 31 points, while Jrue Holiday contributed 16 points and nine assists. Key late contributions also came from Deni Avdija and Robert Williams III.

For the Spurs, Stephon Castle led the scoring with 18 points, while De’Aaron Fox and Devin Vassell added important contributions. Despite their efforts, the team struggled offensively in the final minutes without their key player.

Under NBA rules, players placed in concussion protocol must go through a recovery process that includes rest, testing, and medical clearance before returning to play. This could impact Wembanyama’s participation in Game 3, which is scheduled to take place in Portland.

The Spurs, who are back in the playoffs for the first time since 2019, now face uncertainty as the series continues. Wembanyama, recently named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year, has been central to their success this season, making his health a key factor in the outcome of the series.
