Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính has called for expedited efforts in the Quang Trung Campaign, aimed at swiftly reconstructing homes impacted by the recent floods in central Vietnam as Tết 2026 approaches and the 14th National Party Congress is set to occur.

During a virtual meeting involving central provinces and government representatives, he emphasized that all storm-damaged residences must be repaired or rebuilt to guarantee safe living conditions for every household affected by the floods before the Lunar New Year.

Recent reports indicate that severe flooding in central Vietnam late in 2025 resulted in extensive damage spanning from Quảng Trị to Lâm Đồng, with 1,597 homes either collapsing or being destroyed, necessitating reconstruction, while 34,759 others sustained significant damage and require urgent repairs.

In response to this disaster, the government initiated the Quang Trung Campaign, enlisting the help of various ministries, local governments, businesses, social organizations, and military forces to accelerate the rebuilding of flood-affected homes.

Authorities have reported that all 34,759 homes needing repairs have been addressed, meeting the goals set in the housing reconstruction program. As for new constructions, progress stands at 65.5% with 1,046 out of 1,597 houses completed, while the rest are between 60% and 80% finished.

Local officials confirmed that crucial infrastructure in flood-impacted areas, such as power, clean water supply, telecommunications, and transportation, has been fully restored without major issues regarding funding, manpower, or construction materials for the recovery plan.

Most provinces have pledged to complete the rebuilding process by January 15, in preparation for the National Party Congress, although some families in Lâm Đồng and Đắk Lắk who opted for larger housing designs may take longer, yet still expect completion before Tết 2026.

In wrapping up the meeting, PM Phạm Minh Chính praised the collaborative efforts of ministries and local authorities, highlighting how families with repaired homes have begun to restore stability in their lives following the destruction caused by the storms.

Reaffirming the government's commitment to disaster relief and housing recovery, he urged all agencies to mobilize every available resource, particularly the military and socio-political organizations, ensuring no one is left without shelter.

In addition to housing repairs, he directed local areas to improve environmental sanitation and transport infrastructure and to assess the basic needs of residents so families can celebrate Tết 2026 in full.

The Prime Minister also proposed financial support of VNĐ5 million for each of the 34,759 households with repaired homes, along with VNĐ10 million for nearly 5,000 families nationwide whose houses were destroyed, helping them rebuild their livelihoods through the flood recovery initiative.

Labeling the Quang Trung Campaign as a compassionate, people-centered initiative, he emphasized the need for transparency, stringent oversight, and recognition of exceptional contributors, while applying lessons learned from this experience to enhance future disaster response strategies.
