US North Macedonia Strategic Dialogue Strengthens Ties

The United States and North Macedonia have strengthened their partnership following the second U.S.-North Macedonia Strategic Dialogue held in Washington, D.C. on April 7, 2026. The meeting was led by Christopher Landau and Timčo Mucunski, focusing on advancing cooperation in key areas such as energy, security, and economic growth.

North Macedonia shared its plans to increase defense spending and modernize its military capabilities, while also contributing to international security efforts, including support related to Ukraine.

Cybersecurity and digital cooperation were also key topics during the meeting. The United States announced plans to provide technical support to strengthen North Macedonia’s digital infrastructure. This includes cybersecurity assessments, advisory support, and funding to enhance protection against cyber threats. Both sides also discussed efforts to improve border security and combat illegal activities such as human trafficking, drug smuggling, and organized crime. In addition, the two nations signed agreements to protect cultural heritage and prevent illegal trafficking of historical artifacts. They also discussed expanding travel cooperation through programs that would allow faster entry for approved travelers between the two countries.
