Construction Halted on Rama II Road for Songkran Festivities

In a bid to ensure smoother travel for the Songkran festival, Thailand's Department of Highways has announced a temporary suspension of construction activities on Rama II Road.

This measure aims to alleviate traffic congestion as individuals head to their hometowns or popular tourist spots during one of the country's peak holiday seasons. Key road lanes in both inbound and outbound directions on Rama II Road have been restored for safer passage.

Authorities conducted a thorough inspection of the construction site related to the Bang Khun Thian - Ban Phaeo Elevated Expressway project, especially Sections 4 and 7, ensuring safety and structural integrity following essential installation works.

Public officials have confirmed that this temporary halt will last throughout the Songkran celebrations, optimizing traffic flow and diminishing congestion along this crucial route.

Post-holiday, construction will recommence with necessary traffic management strategies, leading to some lane closures for further lifting and installation of elevated structure components, thereby upholding safety standards.

Traffic diversions are set to be implemented starting April 20, 2026, particularly at kilometer markers 26 and 30+500. These adjustments will occur during daylight hours from 05:00 to 20:00 to minimize inconvenience.

The aim is to complete the remaining construction and fully restore all main lanes before the school term kicks off in mid-May 2026, avoiding traffic snags during peak commuting times.
