The UAE National Identity Committee, led by Sheikha Mariam bint Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, convened for its inaugural meeting to evaluate significant initiatives under the National Identity Strategy of the UAE.

The committee unveiled the National Register of Modern Heritage and scrutinized the National Identity Values Narrative Guide, both of which are designed to bolster Emirati identity, safeguard the nation's heritage, and cultivate shared values within the community.

Discussions included a review of key components of the National Identity Strategy, approved the previous year, encompassing 25 pivotal sectors such as education, media, culture, economy, family, and society. The goal is to elevate national identity in all development aspects throughout the UAE.

Highlighting the essence of national identity, Sheikha Mariam emphasized that it embodies a living experience manifested in daily actions, language, family, traditions, and societal contributions. She pointed out the crucial roles of education and family, along with the foundational values instilled by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in shaping the Emirati identity.

She further underscored the importance of translating the National Identity Strategy into precise priorities that yield measurable outcomes. The strategy aspires to harmonize tradition with innovation, diversity with unity, and ambition with humility.

Among the highlights of the meeting was the introduction of the National Register of Modern Heritage, aimed at documenting and safeguarding culturally significant buildings and structures established post-1960. This project is crucial for preserving national heritage and ensuring its transmission to future generations.

Additionally, the committee reviewed the National Identity Values Narrative Guide, intended to serve as a comprehensive framework for articulating Emirati identity and values. This guide will enable government bodies to develop policies and programs that align with national identity objectives.

Members also discussed advancements related to the National Identity Index, which measures public awareness, pride, and engagement with national identity. This index will assist in assessing the success of future initiatives, promoting social unity among citizens and residents.

An interactive exhibition was also part of the meeting, illustrating the UAE’s National Identity Strategy through four thematic areas: Emirati identity values, strategic priorities, cultural traits, and the National Register of Modern Heritage.

The meeting welcomed several high-ranking UAE officials, including Sheikh Salem bin Khalid Al Qasimi, Dr. Sultan bin Saif Al Neyadi, and Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed.

The National Identity Committee is tasked with overseeing the implementation of the National Identity Strategy, facilitating coordination across sectors, and ensuring the effectiveness of initiatives that strengthen national belonging and protect Emirati heritage.
