The United Arab Emirates is gearing up to enhance its position in the global liquefied natural gas (LNG) market. Energy Minister Suhail al-Mazrouei announced ambitions to satisfy domestic gas needs while significantly boosting LNG exports in the upcoming years.
While attending Abu Dhabi Financial Week, Mazrouei remarked that the worldwide appetite for natural gas is gaining momentum, surpassing the speed of emerging production and investment initiatives. He stated that the UAE is poised to increase its supply to meet both national demands and fresh export prospects.
This viewpoint mirrors that of Qatar Energy Minister Saad al-Kaabi, who recently underscored a stable global demand fueled partly by the expanding energy requirements of artificial intelligence and digital infrastructures. Qatar forecasts an LNG demand of 600–700 million tonnes per year by 2035.
The UAE’s proactive strategy aligns with wider regional growth plans. In June, ADNOC’s international investment branch, XRG, shared its goal to develop a gas and LNG portfolio capable of achieving 20–25 million tonnes annually by 2035, further solidifying the nation’s standing among leading global providers.
As new projects are initiated and long-term demand increases, the UAE is set to play an influential role in shaping the future of the global gas trade.
