UAE Team Emirates-XRG kicked off the 2026 Tour de Romandie with an impressive performance, featuring Ivo Oliveira and Tadej Pogačar in the top 10 during the prologue.
Oliveira, the team's first rider to set out, quickly took the hot seat but was eventually surpassed by Jakob Söderqvist (Lidl-Trek) and Dorian Godon (Ineos Grenadiers), with Godon clinching the stage victory. Nevertheless, Oliveira's remarkable speed—averaging over 52 km/h over the 3.2 km route—landed him a notable third place.
Meanwhile, Tadej Pogačar came in sixth place with a time of 3:42, just two days after triumphing at Liège-Bastogne-Liège. This marks Pogačar's debut at the Tour de Romandie, where he aims for the overall title, previously captured by teammate João Almeida.
Expressing his pleasure with the results, Oliveira noted that his presence at the start line was unexpected, given a recent foot fracture from a crash in Catalunya that stranded him away from training for 12 days. He shared that returning to competition felt special and that he was eager to pursue top finishes.
