In a significant move, the United Arab Emirates has committed $5 million to the Sudan Humanitarian Fund, reinforcing its engagement in addressing the mounting humanitarian challenges facing Sudan.

This financial pledge was formalized through a partnership with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Sudan. Its goal is to boost quick-response efforts and guarantee life-saving support reaches the most at-risk populations caught in the middle of ongoing conflict and displacement.

Dr. Tareq Ahmed Al Ameri, Chairman of the UAE Aid Agency, articulated the urgency of collaborative international efforts as conditions in Sudan deteriorate. He highlighted the significant displacement of civilians into neighboring nations, including Chad, South Sudan, Uganda, and Ethiopia, underscoring the crisis's widening regional repercussions.

“The escalating humanitarian crisis in Sudan necessitates strengthened global efforts and rapid interventions to foster recovery, enhance stability, and address the critical issues faced by millions,” Al Ameri stated.

The contribution received commendation from the United Nations, with Sajeda Al Shawa, Head of OCHA’s Office in the UAE, acknowledging the UAE's steadfast support. She emphasized that this funding is pivotal for the timely distribution of essential humanitarian assistance, adhering to established humanitarian principles.

“This contribution will significantly enhance quick humanitarian response strategies, ensuring that aid reaches those most in need promptly,” she added.

Since the onset of the ongoing crisis, the UAE has allocated $784 million to humanitarian initiatives in Sudan. Over the last decade, its total aid to the nation amounts to $4.24 billion, indicating a robust historical commitment to assisting the Sudanese populace during adverse times.

Additionally, the UAE continues to advocate for a humanitarian ceasefire, highlighting the imperative to safeguard civilians and facilitate the safe, uninterrupted flow of aid. Such measures are deemed vital for alleviating suffering, reinstating stability, and bolstering long-term peace endeavors in Sudan.
