The United Arab Emirates said it came under missile and drone attacks from Iran for the second consecutive day, raising fears of a wider regional conflict across the Gulf. According to the UAE Ministry of Defence, air defence systems were activated Tuesday after multiple aerial threats were detected approaching the country from Iranian territory. Officials stated that the attacks included missiles and drones aimed at strategic locations connected to energy and shipping operations.
The latest strikes came amid growing tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes. The UAE said its defence forces successfully intercepted several incoming projectiles before they could cause major damage. Authorities also urged residents to remain calm and follow official safety instructions while emergency teams monitored the situation closely.
The attacks followed a similar wave of strikes reported one day earlier, when Iranian missiles and drones targeted the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone and nearby maritime areas. UAE officials said some facilities caught fire during Monday’s assault, while several people, including Indian nationals, were reportedly injured. The UAE strongly condemned the attacks and described them as a dangerous escalation threatening regional stability and international trade.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused Iran of directly threatening Gulf security and violating international law. Officials warned that Abu Dhabi reserves the right to respond if attacks continue. Iran, however, denied carrying out recent strikes against the UAE, even as tensions between Tehran and Washington continue increasing over military activity in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait of Hormuz remains at the center of the crisis because nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil passes through the narrow waterway every day. The United States recently launched “Project Freedom,” a naval mission aimed at helping commercial ships move safely through the region after Iran restricted maritime traffic. President Donald Trump later announced a temporary pause in the operation to allow more time for negotiations with Tehran.
Military experts say the attacks on the UAE could have serious economic consequences if tensions continue rising. Fujairah is especially important because it hosts one of the Middle East’s largest oil storage and export hubs outside the Strait of Hormuz. Analysts believe targeting the area may be part of Iran’s attempt to pressure Gulf countries supporting US operations in the region.
Several countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Kuwait, have also increased security measures in recent weeks after earlier Iranian missile and drone attacks across the Gulf region. Regional governments fear that further escalation could disrupt oil exports, aviation, and international trade routes connected to the Middle East.
Diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions are continuing, with China and Pakistan reportedly encouraging direct negotiations between the United States and Iran. However, the latest attacks have increased concerns that the fragile ceasefire and diplomatic progress could collapse if violence spreads further across the Gulf.
