The United Arab Emirates proudly observes its 54th Eid Al Etihad, a celebration of unity and annual progress. The year 2025, designated as the Year of Community, has been marked by remarkable accomplishments that reinforce the UAE’s stature both domestically and globally. Under the wisdom of its leaders, the nation is committed to advancing towards a prosperous future.
Throughout the year, the UAE has significantly increased its footprint on the international stage, showcasing its strength as an economic and humanitarian leader. The country has expanded its alliances, bolstered global progress, and undertaken numerous initiatives, reflecting its unwavering dedication to innovation and development. Domestically, various high-caliber projects have been completed, enhancing sustainable initiatives and elevating overall living standards.
One of the standout areas of advancement is environmental sustainability. The UAE introduced a pioneering marine exploration mission designed to analyze seabed geology within its waters. Additionally, a new geospatial platform has been unveiled to improve the management of agriculture and water resources. In Sharjah, the Khor Kalba Mangrove Centre has achieved recognition as part of the Wetlands Link International network, which promotes wetland conservation and education.
Furthermore, the nation is leading in launching significant environmental initiatives. Abu Dhabi unveiled the “Abu Dhabi Coral Garden,” the largest coral restoration project in the region. Sharjah inaugurated its first solar facility, named “SANA,” which spans 850,000 square meters and can produce 60 megawatts of renewable energy. Notably, Abu Dhabi has taken measures to increase nature reserves to encompass 20% of its total land area.
A pivotal global achievement was the commencement of a colossal clean energy project that integrates a 5.2 GW solar facility with a 19 GWh battery storage system. This groundbreaking endeavor will provide 1 GW of continuous clean energy, positioning it as the world’s largest solar-plus-storage system. The UAE has also expanded its clean energy initiatives to multiple nations, including Saudi Arabia, Spain, Indonesia, Egypt, Africa, and Yemen, through Masdar, bringing renewable energy to millions.
In the realm of digital innovation, the UAE has made significant strides. The country achieved a 97% adoption rate of artificial intelligence tools, the highest globally. The UAE now boasts over 450,000 programmers. Abu Dhabi launched the UAE–US AI Campus with a substantial capacity of 5 gigawatts, marking the largest facility of its kind outside the United States. Additionally, the UAE and France announced a collaborative AI framework to develop a 1 GW AI Campus in France and enhance infrastructure like data centers and supercomputers.
Investment announcements are also noteworthy, with MGX, in partnership with BlackRock and Microsoft, welcoming Nvidia and xAI into the “AI Infrastructure Partnership,” aiming to invest up to USD 100 billion in advanced digital and energy projects.
To bolster digital security, the UAE Cabinet sanctioned the establishment of Google Cloud’s inaugural Global Cyber Security Centre of Excellence in Abu Dhabi, forecasted to create over 20,300 specialized cybersecurity positions.
On an international front, the UAE initiated a US$1 billion “AI for Development” program during the G20 Summit to foster AI initiatives across Africa. Additionally, the country has launched four new visit visa categories focusing on AI experts, entertainment, events, and cruise tourism. The National Artificial Intelligence System will also commence operations as an advisory body to the Cabinet and federal entities from January 2026.
The year 2025 also heralded the introduction of multiple national strategies, including the National Cybersecurity Strategy, National Geospatial Information Policy, Zero Bureaucracy Programme (phase two), National Policy for Economic Clusters, Family Growth Agenda 2031, and the Emirati National Identity Strategy.
