Abu Dhabi, November 5, 2025 – His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan led a wave of condolences to the family of Dick Cheney, the former Vice‑President of the United States, who died on Monday at the age of 84.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, together with His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court, also conveyed messages of sympathy to Cheney’s relatives.

Cheney died on Monday night, his family said, following complications from pneumonia alongside pre-existing cardiac and vascular conditions. He was 84.

Dick Cheney held the office of Vice‑President from 2001 to 2009 under President George W. Bush. He was widely recognised for his powerful influence on executive decision‑making, his advocacy for a broader interpretation of presidential authority, and for playing a major role in the US‑led invasion of Iraq in 2003.

His passing closes a chapter on a polarising and consequential figure whose choices affected both domestic policy and international relations. The condolences from UAE leaders reflect acknowledgement of his global stature and the diplomatic ties between the United States and the United Arab Emirates.
