UAE and Bahrain: A Strengthening Partnership for the Future

Post by : Bianca Hayes

The bond between the UAE and Bahrain exemplifies how close regional ties can foster meaningful advancements. Rooted in shared history and strong brotherly connections, this relationship has become one of the most reliable and productive alliances within the Gulf.

At its essence, the UAE-Bahrain dynamic is driven by mutual cultural and social values, complemented by unified development aspirations. Over the years, this partnership has equipped both nations to face regional and global challenges, upholding stability, peace, and sustained growth for their citizens and the broader region.

As the UAE celebrates its 54th Eid Al Etihad alongside Bahrain's National Day festivities, the depth of this partnership is particularly evident. Generations of strong people-to-people connections have been reinforced through effective diplomatic collaboration, producing a relationship rooted in trust, continuity, and shared goals.

Economic cooperation serves as a significant cornerstone. The UAE is among the top three foreign investors in Bahrain, with direct investments projected to reach AED16.5 billion by 2024—accounting for approximately 10 percent of Bahrain’s total foreign capital inflows. Trade has also followed a remarkable trajectory, with non-oil trade between both nations increasing by over 182 percent from 2010 to 2023, escalating from AED9.1 billion to more than AED25.7 billion, resulting in total non-oil trade amounting to AED231.6 billion between 2010 and 2022.

Investment activity underscores robust confidence on both fronts. More than 1,500 Emirati investors are currently operating in Bahrain, while over 7,000 Emiratis own interests in entities listed on the Bahraini Bourse. Bahraini investments within the UAE remain strong, totaling AED5.1 billion by December 2023.

The partnership is also evident in tangible projects across various sectors. Emirati firms are undertaking impactful initiatives in Bahrain's energy, industry, infrastructure, transport, healthcare, sustainability, and real estate domains. Ongoing exchanges of expertise bolster both nations' competitive edge, enhancing skills and preparing a future-ready workforce.

Together, the UAE and Bahrain exemplify how aligned values, coordinated strategies, and pragmatic collaboration yield enduring benefits—fortifying regional relationships while steadily paving the way for mutual prosperity.
