On April 15, 2026, a prominent Chinese medical delegation arrived in Turkmenistan, marking the start of new healthcare collaboration efforts, particularly in child care and traditional medicine.
The delegation, headed by Tan Zhishu from the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, visited the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow Charitable Foundation for Supporting Children in Need of Care in Arkadag City, emphasizing healthcare and social welfare advancements.
During meetings, Oguljakhan Atabaeva, Vice-President for Medical Affairs of the Foundation, engaged in in-depth talks with the delegation about enhancing bilateral healthcare cooperation, particularly concerning children’s health and rehabilitation services.
Both parties underscored the significance of a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding aimed at creating a Turkmen-Chinese Center for Traditional Chinese Medicine, a move anticipated to increase collaborative efforts between the medical communities of both nations.
The discussions included broadening their cooperation in complex medical treatments, rehabilitation services, and blending traditional and modern medicine techniques to elevate healthcare results.
Atabaeva remarked on Turkmenistan's substantial commitment to safeguarding children's health and enhancing their quality of life via progressive medical and social support systems. She also elaborated on the foundation’s vital role, founded in 2021, in delivering essential medical services and performing intricate surgeries for children.
The Chinese representatives expressed keen interest in expanding their collaborative efforts and recognized Turkmenistan as a trustworthy ally in healthcare growth. They welcomed Turkmenistan’s participation in the global network of traditional medicine centers.
The delegation also toured the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow Children’s Health and Rehabilitation Center, appreciating the modern treatment facilities and integrated healthcare services that aid in children's recovery and development.
Additionally, they visited the State Equestrian Circus, where hippotherapy is practiced as an innovative rehabilitation approach, showcasing unique methods to boost children's physical and emotional health.
