An UAE meeting involving key Israeli and Palestinian figures ignites discussion on Gaza’s leadership
The upgrading efforts at Taman Persekutuan Lembah Kiara in Taman Tun Dr Ismail are nearing their final stages, with officials anticipating a June reopening for the park. Currently, the project stands at roughly 98% completion, pending the final handover from the contractor.
Authorities have made clear that a recent incident involving a collapsed retaining wall and mudflow on Jalan Abang Haji Openg will not affect the timeline for the park's upgrade. This issue is associated with a different project within the Bukit Kiara Federal Park zone but is not related to the main park area.
As per the National Landscape Department, the outstanding work largely consists of finishing touches and specific components awaiting completion before the site is officially handed over. Following this, a one-month observation period will allow for further assessment before the park opens to the public.
The upgrade project initially faced setbacks due to the contractor's struggles to adhere to revised deadlines. Major outstanding tasks, like pond desilting and improvements related to it, have not been delivered on time, despite several extensions.
Due to these delays, authorities have imposed daily liquidated damages on the contractor, totaling approximately RM1,200. To date, this brings the total penalty to around RM76,000, emphasizing the significance of these delays on the project timeline.
The Drainage and Irrigation Department has now mandated the contractor to finalize all remaining tasks by the end of April. Following this, safety and quality checks will be performed during the observation period before the upgraded park is opened.
The RM6 million upgrade initiative, which commenced in July 2024, encompasses significant enhancements such as stream restoration, pond rehabilitation, upgrades to sediment basins, and improvements to railings and lighting systems. These changes aim to elevate the park’s environmental sustainability and the visitor experience.
Currently, only parts of the park not impacted by construction are accessible. Authorities assure that the full reopening will feature enhanced facilities and provide a safer environment for everyone.
