Trump Proclaims Key Role in India-Pakistan Peace, Critiques Nobel Award

Post by : Mina Carter

In a bold assertion, US President Donald Trump has reiterated his claim of resolving the India-Pakistan conflict. During a meeting at the White House with oil and gas leaders, he expressed that no one deserves the Nobel Peace Prize more than he does, specifically criticizing former President Barack Obama, who was awarded the prize without notable peace achievements.

Trump revisited his assertion about the eight jets downed during last May’s India-Pakistan standoff, although he did not specify their allegiance. He touted his administration’s success in settling eight long-standing wars, some lasting over thirty years, emphasizing his contribution in averting a significant conflict between the two nuclear powers.

He cited a remark from Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who, after visiting the White House last year, attributed the saving of millions of lives to Trump’s intervention in the conflict. This marks the second occasion within days that Trump has claimed credit for diffusing tensions between India and Pakistan, a narrative he has reiterated since announcing a “full and immediate” ceasefire on May 10 last year following US mediation.

The confrontation escalated in early May 2025 when India initiated Operation Sindoor to target terrorist networks in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. This action was a reaction to a deadly assault in Pahalgam resulting in 26 civilian casualties. Following several days of extensive drone and missile exchanges, both nations consented to cease hostilities, despite India denying external mediation.

Trump asserted that his peace efforts were unmatched, claiming that no leader has achieved as much. He criticized Obama for receiving the Nobel Prize soon after taking office in 2009 without relevant accomplishments. Trump contended that peace initiatives resulting in the cessation of major conflicts should truly earn such recognition, claiming to have safeguarded tens of millions of lives.

Additionally, he reflected on a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who allegedly expressed astonishment at how swiftly the US resolved two long-standing conflicts that had eluded Russia for years.

Trump also mentioned Venezuelan opposition figure María Corina Machado, who dedicated her Nobel Peace Prize to him last year. He indicated she plans to visit Washington soon to express her gratitude, underscoring his appreciation for her support. He suggested that the Nobel Committee in Norway feels regret for not honoring him last year.

In a recent chat, Trump reiterated his belief that he prevented a substantial conflict between India and Pakistan, stressing his pivotal role in securing peace between these two formidable nuclear nations.
