Trump Transitions to New Cadillac SUVs Amid Presidential Transport Revisions

Post by : Sean Carter

U.S. President Donald Trump is set to experience upgraded travel both on the road and in the air, as American security agencies modernize the president's transportation methods to ensure enhanced safety.

During this week's World Economic Forum held in Davos, Switzerland, Trump was spotted in freshly delivered Cadillac SUVs. The U.S. Secret Service confirmed that these vehicles have been officially incorporated into their protective fleet. While specific technical details remain undisclosed, the SUVs appear to be extensively modified Cadillac Escalades tailored for high-security occasions.

Sean Curran, the Director of the Secret Service, expressed satisfaction with the ongoing partnership with General Motors. He noted that these new vehicles are part of broader efforts to enhance the protection systems for the president while ensuring reliability and safety.

When moving short distances or venturing outside the White House, presidents typically opt for armored sport utility vehicles. Previously, Trump and other presidents commonly used armored Chevrolet Suburbans when the well-known presidential limousine, nicknamed “The Beast,” was not in use.

The shift to Cadillac SUVs follows discussions Trump had with the leadership of General Motors. Earlier this year, in March, Trump met with GM CEO Mary Barra to propose the inclusion of Cadillac vehicles in the presidential motorcade. Shortly thereafter, Secret Service officials visited a GM location in Michigan to evaluate designs for future armored vehicles.

Simultaneously, efforts are ongoing to develop the next-generation presidential limousine. In 2024, the Department of Homeland Security alongside the Secret Service awarded General Motors a significant contract to create a new version of “The Beast.” This initiative could see costs exceed $40 million by 2029 and aims to offer enhanced protection and updated technology.

Changes are also underway for Trump's air travel. During his visit to Davos, he was temporarily switched from the Boeing 747 to a smaller Boeing 757 due to a minor electrical complication. The U.S. Air Force confirmed that plans are advancing for a new aircraft to be ready by summer 2026.

Until the new aircraft are operational, Trump is utilizing a luxury Boeing 747, previously owned by Qatar’s government. This roughly 13-year-old plane features a high-end interior and is undergoing modifications to adhere to stringent U.S. security protocols. The renovations will likely cost hundreds of millions of dollars.

The long-overdue replacement for the current Air Force One fleet has seen multiple delays. Boeing's delivery of two new Air Force One aircraft has now been postponed to at least mid-2028, which has led to frustrations within both the Air Force and the White House.

Despite these setbacks, officials affirm that they are collaborating closely to secure the president’s safety and comfort, both on the ground and in flight. The introduction of new Cadillac SUVs and progress in aircraft upgrades demonstrate that the U.S. is committed to modernizing presidential transportation for the future.
