President Donald Trump has unveiled plans for a significant refurbishment of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C., stating that the iconic site will receive a new coating in an “American flag blue” hue.
The president criticized the existing granite surface, describing it as “leaking like a sieve,” with a complete replacement projected to cost around $301 million and take several years.
Opting for a more efficient approach, Trump has chosen to clean the pool and apply an industrial-grade coating for approximately $1.5 million, with completion expected in just a few weeks.
The initiative was sparked by comments from a visiting friend from Germany, who found the water less than appealing. Trump also noted his disappointment in the pool's condition during a Secret Service visit.
Originally considering a turquoise reminiscent of Bahamian swimming pools, Trump ultimately settled on the contractor's suggestion of “American flag blue.”
The project will be overseen by a trusted pool contractor from his prior real estate ventures.
This rejuvenation is set to be finished before July 4, aligning with the upcoming 250th Independence Day celebrations in the United States.
The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, nestled between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument, holds historical significance as the backdrop for Martin Luther King Jr.’s iconic “I Have a Dream” speech.
