Dubai – Zimbabwe's T20 captain Sikandar Raza is heartbroken after the passing of his younger brother, Muhammad Mahdi, aged just 13 years.
Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) released a statement offering condolences to Raza and his family. The statement highlighted, “Zimbabwe Cricket extends its deepest sympathies to Sikandar Raza following the tragic passing of his young brother, Muhammad Mahdi. Muhammad was born with haemophilia and faced serious health challenges, ultimately passing away on 29 December 2025 in Harare.”
Muhammad Mahdi was laid to rest on 30 December 2025 at Warren Hills Cemetery. The ZC Board and management, along with players and staff, expressed their solidarity with Raza during this challenging time. “May Allah provide them strength and peace, and may Muhammad Mahdi’s soul rest in eternal serenity,” the statement conveyed.
In light of this tragic loss, Sikandar Raza expressed his sorrow on social media with a broken-heart emoji, highlighting his grief.
This personal loss strikes at a critical juncture in Raza’s cricket career. The adept all-rounder recently thrived with the Sharjah Warriorz in the ILT20 2025, amassing 171 runs and securing 10 wickets across 10 matches, further establishing his potential as a T20 star.
Despite this emotional challenge, Raza is set to lead Zimbabwe in the T20 World Cup 2026, which will begin in February. His role as captain and key player will be essential on this prestigious international platform.
