All remaining performances of Shen Yun in Toronto have been cancelled after a series of reported threats, prompting safety concerns among organizers and venue officials. The shows were scheduled to take place at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts, a major downtown theatre.
The disruption began when a scheduled performance on March 29 was abruptly cancelled following a reported bomb threat. In response, organizers initially planned to increase security measures, including enhanced screening and K-9 checks, to allow the remaining shows to continue safely. However, after additional threatening messages were reported in the following days, the venue decided to cancel all remaining performances.
In a statement, the theatre said the decision was made out of an abundance of caution and in close coordination with the Toronto Police Service. Officials emphasized that the safety of staff, performers, and audiences was their top priority. While police confirmed that multiple threats had been reported, they also stated that none were found to be credible. Investigations into the source of the messages are still ongoing.
The show’s presenter, the Falun Dafa Association of Toronto, expressed disappointment with the cancellation, noting that thousands of ticket holders have been affected. The group said it had cooperated fully with security efforts and had hoped the performances could continue with stronger safety measures in place.
Ticket holders have been advised to contact organizers regarding refunds, exchanges, or alternative options for future performances. Due to the large number of requests, organizers have asked for patience while processing these arrangements.
The cancellation marks a rare interruption for Shen Yun performances, which are typically held in major cities worldwide. Despite the threats being deemed unfounded, the venue’s decision reflects growing caution around public safety in large-scale events.
