Vietnam's To Lam Commemorates Ho Chi Minh in Singapore

In a display of respect for Vietnam's revolutionary heritage, Vietnamese General Secretary and President To Lam honored Ho Chi Minh during his trip to Singapore. This significant event underscored Vietnam's commitment to fostering international ties and took place at Singapore's renowned Asian Civilisations Museum on May 30.

Joined by his wife and a distinguished Vietnamese delegation, President To Lam laid a wreath at Ho Chi Minh's statue and memorial plaque. This ceremony was part of his state visit and engagement in the 23rd Shangri-La Dialogue, a crucial forum for Asia's security and diplomacy.

During the tribute, President To Lam and delegation members paused for a moment of silence, reflecting on Ho Chi Minh's legacy as the architect of modern Vietnam. This act served as a testament to Vietnam's ongoing admiration for his pivotal role in national independence and development, as well as international cooperation.

Ho Chi Minh’s statue graces the Asian Civilisations Museum, positioned amidst other significant Asian leaders’ monuments. This site symbolizes the lasting friendship between Vietnam and Singapore.

The memorial plaque for Ho Chi Minh was inaugurated in May 2008, marking the 118th anniversary of his birth and coinciding with the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. The move was met with approval as it reflected the strengthening bond between Vietnam and Singapore.

Following this recognition, members of Singapore's heritage community, alongside the Vietnamese Embassy and Ho Chi Minh Museum, advocated for a permanent statue. It was unveiled in September 2011, becoming a site of cultural importance and remembrance.

President To Lam's visit highlights the ongoing efforts of both Vietnam and Singapore to enhance collaboration in economics, security, education, and culture. Officials from both sides have reiterated the necessity of maintaining robust bilateral relations amid evolving regional and global landscapes.
