Vietnam's President and General Secretary To Lam made a significant keynote address at the 11th National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, taking place at the National Convention Center in Hanoi as of May 12. This Congress gathered key leaders, government officials, intellectuals, religious figures, and representatives from overseas Vietnamese communities to chart the nation’s course for the upcoming 2026–2031 term.
In his speech, To Lam underlined that unity is the cornerstone of Vietnam’s stability and development. He noted that Vietnam is transitioning into a new phase of growth and modernization, following the successful completion of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party. He emphasized the need for the country to concentrate on prosperity, innovation, democracy, and enhanced civic participation while centering people in all reform efforts.
The Vietnamese leader asserted that the Vietnam Fatherland Front must act as a vital link between the government and citizens. He advocated for substantial reforms in the organization’s operational methodologies, highlighting improved social monitoring, robust public dialogue, and the effective utilization of digital channels to address citizens’ feedback. Enhancing transparency, safeguarding public interests, and increasing institutional accountability were also crucial points he raised.
The discourse predominantly concentrated on the necessity for social unity amidst swift economic and technological progress. To Lam remarked on the rapid evolution of Vietnamese society driven by urbanization, emerging industries, and shifting social dynamics. He called for modernized methods of public engagement, urging the Front to adopt practical programs, direct outreach, and innovative communication strategies.
To Lam commended the recent contributions of the Fatherland Front and social organizations towards assisting impoverished communities, disaster victims, and vulnerable groups nationwide. He highlighted notable achievements, including the eradication of temporary housing, aid for flood victims, and welfare initiatives aimed at uplifting millions. Such efforts exemplify Vietnam’s ethos of solidarity, compassion, and communal accountability.
The President cautioned that the organization must confront its deficiencies, including bureaucratic tendencies, ineffective oversight, and limited digital transition. He urged officials to stay connected with the populace and not rely solely on paperwork and reports. Leaders should actively listen to community concerns, respond promptly, and reinforce trust between citizens and the state.
The Congress aims to ratify key resolutions and strategic frameworks for the Vietnam Fatherland Front over the next five years. Leaders anticipate the event will bolster national unity, enhance governance, and support Vietnam’s long-term aspirations for sustainable development, economic progress, and international integration by 2045.
