High-level discussions in Bangkok have brought Thailand and Peru nearer to concluding a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), featuring dialogues between Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Peruvian Ambassador Cecilia Zunilda Galarreta Bazán.

This meeting marked a significant moment, coinciding with the ambassador’s farewell as her diplomatic term in Thailand comes to an end. Both nations underscored their enduring friendship and collaborative spirit built over the past six decades.

Officials noted substantial strides in the FTA negotiations and conveyed optimism that a formal signing could occur this year. Leaders from both countries envision that this agreement will enhance trade and investment avenues.

The conversation also covered vital topics like food security and agricultural partnerships. Both sides recognized their agricultural strengths and identified significant potential to boost food trade and collaboration.

Prime Minister Anutin expressed Thailand's readiness to position itself as a key food supply hub for Peru and other South American markets. Officials foresee that strengthened agricultural ties could foster sustained economic cooperation between these regions.

The ambassador additionally discussed the Chancay Port project, promising enhanced logistics connectivity and supply chain integration between South America and ASEAN, with Thailand poised to be a crucial trade gateway.

Both parties acknowledged that better logistics infrastructure and robust trade networks would yield mutual benefits for businesses and economic growth. This initiative also reflects a rising interest in fostering deeper ties between ASEAN and economies in Latin America.

At the end of the talks, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the ambassador for her pivotal role in strengthening bilateral relations and extended best wishes for her future diplomatic endeavors, reaffirming Thailand's steadfast friendship with Peru.
