Concerns Arise Over Safety Following Fatal Fire at Swiss Bar

Witness accounts suggest that staff were carrying sparklers atop champagne bottles as guests danced, which might have ignited ceiling materials, causing the flames to spread rapidly.

Situated in a subterranean location, officials are scrutinizing the materials used in previous renovations. A significant concern revolves around the foam installed for soundproofing the ceiling. Investigators are examining whether this insulation was fire-resistant and adhered to safety regulations.

Beatrice Pilloud, the chief prosecutor for the Valais region, noted that the fire expanded rapidly, making escape difficult for patrons. Authorities are now investigating the adequacy of the bar's fire suppression systems, emergency exits, and whether the venue was overpopulated during the event.

According to local residents, police responded swiftly, but the destruction was severe. Many victims were found unrecognizable, complicating the identification process. As of now, only one victim, a teenage Italian golfer, has been officially identified, with the rest likely taking days for identification.
