The Ministry of Labour in Thailand has initiated a comprehensive job fair in Surin Province, aiming to enhance employment prospects and improve workforce skills in the northeastern area. Dubbed “JOB FAIR @ Surin: Great Jobs in My Hometown,” this event features over 50 prominent companies providing more than 5,000 job openings across various industries.
Chulaphan Amornvivat officially inaugurated the fair at the Lumpini Grand Hall in Surin, alongside senior officials from the Ministry, local governments, and educational institutions. The focus of the event was to establish direct interactions between employers and job seekers, particularly young graduates.
The Labour Ministry reported that this fair aims to make job access available to diverse groups, including recent graduates, the unemployed, career switchers, and marginalized communities. Officials underscored Surin’s growing economic landscape in sectors like agriculture, tourism, and food processing, which are anticipated to foster new job opportunities in the future.
Minister Chulaphan pointed out that Thailand’s job market is evolving alongside advancements in the digital economy. He highlighted the need for workers with technology, language skills, and professional training, moving beyond traditional labor skills. As a response, the government is amplifying up-skilling and re-skilling initiatives to equip workers for the future market needs.
Over the course of two days, the job fair also included career development activities such as trial training for 25 independent professions, virtual reality learning sessions, consultations for overseas employment, and open-house programs from 11 educational institutions. The goal is to motivate young individuals while helping them explore modern career paths and entrepreneurial ventures.
Participants and visitors had the chance to attend exhibitions on innovative careers, interact directly with employers for interviews, and receive guidance from labor officials. Additionally, there was a showcase of OTOP products, local businesses, and affordable goods supported by the government to stimulate grassroots economic growth.
Officials highlighted that this fair is a significant platform to minimize job search expenses and enhance employment access for residents in non-urban areas. There is a strong belief that such initiatives can fortify local economies while alleviating migration pressures on larger cities.
The Labour Ministry remarked that this initiative signifies broader national efforts aimed at improving job quality, enhancing workforce competitiveness, and fostering sustainable economic growth across Thailand’s regional provinces.
