Vietnam and Slovakia have officially elevated their bilateral relationship to a Strategic Partnership, marking a historic moment in their ongoing diplomatic engagement. This landmark agreement was finalized during Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico's visit to Vietnam.
Hosted by Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, the visit spanned from April 12 to April 14, 2026. Both leaders highlighted that this partnership is rooted in over 75 years of diplomatic history grounded in trust, mutual respect, and aligned interests.
The newly formed Strategic Partnership aims to enhance collaboration across various fields, including political discussions, economic partnerships, and international coordination. Both nations reaffirmed their dedication to international law, multilateral frameworks, and maintaining global peace and stability.
Key focuses of the partnership include economic, trade, and investment collaboration. Both countries committed to boosting cooperation in sectors such as automotive, energy, digital technology, artificial intelligence, and green innovation, while ensuring fair and transparent trade practices.
Beyond economic relations, Vietnam and Slovakia vowed to bolster defense and security collaborations, addressing cybersecurity, peacekeeping initiatives, and the fight against transnational crime. There was also a mutual commitment to enhance collaboration in education, science, and technology.
With an eye on cultural exchanges, tourism, labor cooperation, and agricultural advancement, both countries anticipate significant growth under this new partnership. Their joint efforts aim to enhance people-to-people relations and discover new pathways for mutual growth.
This agreement coincides with broader international cooperation efforts, including Vietnam's involvement with the European Union, fostering regional and global stability, economic advancement, and sustainable development.
