Post by : Bianca Hayes

Moscow's Mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, has inaugurated the T2 tram line, a landmark addition to the city's public transport infrastructure. With a remarkable length of 33 kilometres, this line is now the longest urban tram route globally.

The T2 route links the southern and eastern sectors of the city, commencing at Chertanovskaya station in southern Moscow and terminating at Novogireevo station, part of the Moscow Central Diameter Line 4 (MCD-4).

Focused on streamlining daily commutes, the T2 line traverses through 13 high-density residential areas, granting easy access to over two million citizens. It boasts 79 stops, enhancing coverage across essential neighborhoods.

Although extensive, a full ride on the T2 line takes upwards of two hours, illustrating the line’s broad reach and the number of its stops. City leaders anticipate the initiative will greatly reduce traffic congestion and improve connections between key urban zones.

The inauguration of this tram line underlines Moscow's commitment to revamping its public transport system, aiming to provide efficient and sustainable travel solutions for its expanding population.
