Vietnam extended a warm welcome to Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico during his visit from April 12 to 14, 2026. The official ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi and was presided over by Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, marking a pivotal enhancement in the two nations' bilateral relations.

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung personally greeted Robert Fico, emphasizing the significance of this visit as a milestone international engagement under his leadership. At a time when Vietnam- Slovakia relations are on the rise, this event exemplifies their shared commitment to growing their longstanding friendship.

This visit marks Robert Fico's third official trip to Vietnam, following his previous engagements in 2008 and 2016. He notably becomes the first high-ranking representative of the European Union to visit Vietnam since the elevation of Vietnam-EU relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The grand welcoming ceremony featured a red carpet reception, national anthems, and a review of the Honor Guard of the Vietnam People’s Army. The exchange of delegations underscored the mutual respect and diplomatic camaraderie between the two leaders.

Following the ceremony, both leaders convened at the Government Headquarters for formal discussions, culminating in the signing of various cooperation agreements. They also explored an exhibition highlighting the rich history, culture, and enduring bond between Vietnam and Slovakia.

Over recent years, Vietnam and Slovakia have experienced consistent growth in their economic and trade partnerships, with bilateral trade expected to approach nearly $1.78 billion by 2025. Slovakia's investments in Vietnam further remark on the strengthening economic connections.

This visit is anticipated to bolster political trust, broaden cooperation in diverse areas such as trade, technology, and culture, and create new avenues for enhanced collaboration between the countries.
