Sean Combs Docuseries Released Amid Legal Dispute

Netflix has released a four-part docuseries exploring Sean “Diddy” Combs’s criminal investigation and conviction, despite claims from his legal team that footage was used without permission.

Titled Sean Combs: The Reckoning, the series features archival material filmed in the days leading up to Combs’s 2024 indictment, showing him consulting with lawyers and staff to navigate the legal fallout.

Combs’s representatives have called the series a “shameful hit piece,” asserting that Netflix aired footage he had not authorized. They noted that Combs has been documenting his life and career since age 19, making the release “fundamentally unfair and illegal.”

The documentary was produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, a longtime rival of Combs. The director has stated all footage was obtained legally and that the team attempted to reach Combs’s representatives for comment but received no response.

Combs was convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution, while being acquitted of sex trafficking and conspiracy charges. He received a four-year prison sentence, considered light relative to the maximum penalties for the charges.

The series includes interviews with jurors, who discuss key trial moments, including security footage of Combs allegedly assaulting former girlfriend Cassandra Ventura in 2016. While this incident was not part of the trial due to the statute of limitations, jurors said it affected their perception of Combs.

Jurors also commented on Combs’s relationships and questioned the credibility of testimony from his former assistant, who claimed she was kidnapped at gunpoint.

Sean Combs: The Reckoning examines both the legal case and Combs’s public image, sparking discussions about the ethics of documentary filmmaking and the use of personal footage against a subject’s wishes.
