Popular reality show Bigg Boss 19 continues to stir controversy, especially after contestants Tanya Mittal and Neelam Giri were seen body-shaming fellow housemate, actress Ashnoor Kaur. The incident, which aired earlier this week, has drawn severe criticism from viewers and celebrities alike. Host Salman Khan addressed the matter in the latest Weekend Ka Vaar episode, reprimanding both contestants for their disrespectful remarks.
Salman Khan Slams Tanya Mittal and Neelam Giri
During the episode, Salman Khan engaged both Tanya and Neelam directly about their behavior. He began by asking them to share their opinions on Ashnoor Kaur. Neelam said, “Achhi lag rahi hai” (She is looking good), while Tanya responded with, “Bilkul princess jaisi lag rahi hai” (She's looking like a princess).
Not one to mince words, Salman quickly confronted them:
“Accha? Neelam, aapko apni chugli par bahut garv hai? Ab kyu nahi bol rahi? Tanya, aapne kaha haathi jaise, dinosaur, moti, fugge jaise shakal wali. Ye haq kisne diya aapko ye sab bolne ka?”
(Really? Neelam, you were proud of your gossip earlier. Why are you quiet now? Tanya, you compared her to an elephant, a dinosaur, called her fat, and likened her to a balloon. Who gave you the right to say such things?)
His stern message served as a reminder that body-shaming has no place in the Bigg Boss house or anywhere else.
Television Celebrities Rally Behind Ashnoor Kaur
The incident sparked outrage outside the house, too. Bigg Boss 7 winner Gauahar Khan addressed the issue on Instagram Stories, calling Tanya Mittal’s behavior “disgusting.”
“Initially, mujhe lagta tha ki Tanya bohot hi sorted, bholi, drame waali hai… but the way she is body-shaming Ashnoor behind her back is absolutely disgusting,” Gauahar said.
Actress Jannat Zubair Rahmani, content creator Awez Darbar, and several others also voiced their support for Ashnoor Kaur, further pushing the conversation around respect, body positivity, and responsible behavior on reality shows.
What Sparked the Controversy?
The drama stemmed from a recent episode where Tanya Mittal and Neelam Giri discussed Ashnoor Kaur’s physical appearance. Tanya was heard saying that despite working out daily, Ashnoor hadn’t lost any weight. Neelam added that she wasn’t making any other effort to manage her physique inside the house.
The remarks went viral, prompting many to condemn the contestants for promoting toxicity and body-shaming on national television.
As Bigg Boss 19 continues to dominate prime-time television, the recent episode raises important questions about accountability and the impact of on-screen behavior. Salman Khan’s intervention offered a timely reminder of dignity and empathy, especially in a show watched by millions across India.
Whether this public rebuke will bring lasting change in the contestants’ attitudes remains to be seen as the show progresses.
