Salman Khan Responds to AR Murugadoss Over ‘Sikandar’ Criticism

Superstar Salman Khan’s Sikandar may have underperformed at the box office and was even called his “weakest” film by some critics, but Salman has no regrets about doing the movie. On Bigg Boss 19’s Weekend Ka Vaar, he also slammed the film’s director AR Murugadoss for criticizing him for arriving late on set.

During the episode, comedian Ravi Gupta asked Salman which movies he regrets doing. Salman recalled his earlier films Suryavanshi (1992) and Nishchay (1992) but said, “Nayi mein se koi nahi hai… log kehte hain Sikandar par main nahi manta, uska plot bahut acha tha” (I don’t regret any recent films. People say Sikandar, but I don’t agree; the plot was good).

Salman sarcastically addressed Murugadoss’ claims about his late arrivals: “Main set pe raat ke 9 baje pahuchta tha, toh usme gadbad ho gayi. Meri pasaliyan tooti thi, isne jo hamare director sahab hain unhone ye kaha. Lekin unki picture abhi release hui hai jisme actor 6 baje pahuchta tha.” He also noted the production changes, mentioning that the film initially belonged to Murugadoss and Sajid Nadiadwala, but both later left.

Taking a subtle dig at Murugadoss’ recent work, Salman added, “Madharaasi karke picture unhone direct ki hai jo ki release hui, bahut badi film hai aur utni hi badi… Sikandar se badi blockbuster” with a smile.

Earlier, Murugadoss had said in an interview that shooting with a star like Salman was challenging. “Even day scenes, we have to shoot at night because he turns up on set only by 8 PM,” he explained, adding that this affected other actors, particularly children in scenes, who became tired and dozed off.

Sikandar told the story of Rajkot’s king, Sanjay Rajkot (Salman), also known as Sikandar. Following his wife Saishri’s (Rashmika Mandanna) death, he vows to protect three organ recipients in Mumbai while confronting threats from a vengeful politician. Made on a reported ₹200 crore budget, the film earned only ₹185 crore worldwide, according to Sacnilk.
