Singer and composer Sachin Sanghvi, recognized as one half of the popular music duo Sachin-Jigar, was detained on Thursday, October 23, amidst accusations of sexual assault. The allegations suggest that he promised a woman both a role in a forthcoming music project and marriage, only to then assault her.
The woman, in her 20s, reported that her interactions with Sanghvi began via Instagram in February last year. Following this, they exchanged phone numbers to communicate further.
She claimed that during a visit to Sanghvi’s studio, he not only proposed marriage but also allegedly assaulted her multiple times. Legal actions have been initiated under the appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Sachin Sanghvi's attorney, Aditya Mithe, vehemently denied all accusations. In a statement to the press, Mithe remarked, “The charges detailed in the FIR against my client are entirely unfounded. The case lacks any substantive evidence.” He emphasized that Sanghvi's detention by police was unlawful, leading to his immediate release on bail. Mithe affirmed their commitment to contest the allegations vigorously.
Currently, Sachin has not commented publicly on the situation; his Instagram handle, @soulfulsachin, has been taken offline. Additionally, his music collaborator Jigar remains silent on the matter.
Sachin-Jigar are celebrated within Bollywood for their popular compositions. Their recent project includes the Diwali film Thamma, starring Rashmika Mandanna and Ayushmann Khurrana. Their earlier work on Stree 2, especially the hit song “Aaj Ki Raat”, received widespread acclaim.
