Post by : Bianca Hayes

Dubai, Dec 8 – Rovman Powell delivered an impressive performance, scoring an unbeaten 96 to help the Dubai Capitals secure an 83-run victory over Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the opening match of ILT20 Season 4.

After early setbacks with Toby Albert (8) and Sediqullah Atal (8) quickly dismissed, Powell joined forces with Jordan Cox, who managed a brisk 52 off 32 balls. Their vital 119-run partnership shifted the momentum and propelled the Dubai Capitals to a strong total of 186/4 in 20 overs. Powell’s dazzling innings consisted of eight fours and four sixes, while Cox contributed with four boundaries and a six.

The Abu Dhabi Knight Riders faced challenges from the start, as David Willey bowled out Alex Hales for a duck and Alishan Sharafu for just 4 runs in the very first over. Mustafizur Rahman then claimed Unmukt Chand’s wicket, leaving the Knight Riders struggling at 10/3. Although Phil Salt scored 27 runs off 21 balls, the team could not recover and was ultimately bowled out for just 103 in 15.3 overs. Waqar Salamkheil and Mohammed Nabi combined for four essential wickets, maintaining pressure on the opposition throughout.

Despite a quick 12 runs off six balls from Andre Russell, the middle and lower order of the Knight Riders failed to rally. Skipper Jason Holder (0), Sunil Narine (3), and Sherfane Rutherford (19) could not induce a late comeback, well short of the target set by Dubai Capitals.

This emphatic victory marks a promising start to the season for Dubai Capitals, showcasing Powell's match-winning abilities and the team's resilience in overcoming early challenges.
