The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) showcased their strength in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026, achieving a convincing 61-run victory against the Gujarat Giants, thereby clinching their spot in the playoffs. Gautami Naik’s remarkable half-century and a disciplined bowling display led RCB to their fifth consecutive triumph of the season.
This win marks RCB as only the second team—after the Mumbai Indians (2023)—to achieve five back-to-back victories in a single WPL season, making it their largest win recorded by runs in the tournament's history.
RCB Recovers from Early Struggles
In their first outing of the season at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara, RCB faced early challenges, slipping to 9 for 2. Grace Harris was dismissed by Renuka Singh in the first over, and Georgia Voll was bowled attempting a cut shot shortly after.
Smriti Mandhana and Gautami Naik worked meticulously to stabilize the innings, with Mandhana hitting a couple of boundaries against Giants captain Ash Gardner, while Naik gradually found her rhythm. Together, they forged a pivotal 50-run partnership by the eighth over.
Gardner eventually broke the partnership, getting Mandhana out for the fourth time in WPL history.
Gautami Naik Shines
Naik played brilliantly, notching her first WPL half-century off 42 balls, becoming the first uncapped Indian to achieve this milestone in WPL history. Richa Ghosh added a burst of scoring with three sixes in her quickfire 20-ball innings, while Radha Yadav contributed valuable late runs.
RCB concluded their innings strongly, posting 178 for 6 while capitalizing on the Gujarat Giants' sloppy fielding, which resulted in 21 extras, the joint second-highest in WPL’s history.
The Giants’ Chase Stumbles Early
In pursuit of 179, the Gujarat Giants faced an abysmal start. Sayali Satghare dismissed both openers in one over, taking out Beth Mooney for 3 and Sophie Devine for a duck. Lauren Bell followed suit, clean-bowling Kanika Ahuja and leaving the Giants at 5 for 3.
Despite a brief stand from Anushka Sharma, who eventually succumbed to Nadine de Klerk, the Giants quickly found themselves at 56 for 6.
Ash Gardner attempted a rally with a fighting half-century, showcasing boundaries and a six off Bell, but the mounting run rate was insurmountable. Satghare returned to claim Gardner, ending with three wickets as the Giants were confined to 117 for 8.
RCB Continues Their March Forward
RCB’s bowling attack distributed the wickets evenly, representing a complete team effort. This win not only secured RCB's playoff qualification but also emphasized their status as a formidable contender in WPL 2026.
