A software engineer in Bengaluru lost ₹1.52 crore to a man she met online who pretended to be wealth
In a remarkable turn of events, Vivek Ramaswamy, the Republican contender for governor, has dramatically transformed Ohio's fundraising dynamics by amassing an astounding $9.88 million during the latter half of 2025. This brings his total contributions for the year to over $19.57 million, a record amount for any candidate vying for the governorship in Ohio at this point.
The campaign revealed that the sum raised between July and December alone surpasses the $9.7 million collected in the first half of the year. Cumulatively, these results represent the most exceptional financial backing for any gubernatorial hopeful in the state's history. Notably, the campaign emphasized that these proceeds do not include any of Ramaswamy's personal funds.
Since launching his campaign in late February 2025, Ramaswamy has been active statewide, hosting over 110 campaign events that were integral to his fundraising efforts. His campaign highlighted that the recent figures reflect contributions from tens of thousands of small donors, showcasing robust grassroots support rather than large personal investments.
The staggering amount raised has already outpaced total campaign collections from several previous Ohio gubernatorial candidates. According to financial records, Ramaswamy's initial two filings have exceeded the total funds amassed by many past governors and prominent candidates from both major parties in prior election cycles.
In addition to impressive fundraising, Ramaswamy's campaign has garnered a broad spectrum of endorsements from various political and civic leaders in Ohio, including organizations traditionally aligned with Democrats. This early financial success has positioned him as a leading candidate in the race to follow the term-limited Governor Mike DeWine in 2026.
Should he win, Ramaswamy would become the third Indian American to hold the position of U.S. state governor, joining Bobby Jindal and Nikki Haley. His semiannual campaign finance report for the period concluding on December 31, 2025, is anticipated to be submitted to the Ohio Secretary of State by January 31, 2026.
