Authorities in the Dominican Republic have arrested two men in connection with the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old tourist from Quebec, who was visiting the country with his brother.

The victim, Tristan Primeau-Pointras, was shot and killed on March 23 while riding a motorcycle along the Puerto Plata–Maimón Highway in the coastal region of Puerto Plata. According to police, the teenager was staying temporarily at a local resort when the incident occurred.

Officials say the suspects, identified as Jordi Yúnior Severiano, 23, and Rangel Merete Rodríguez, 30, were arrested shortly after the incident. Both men are local residents and were identified by the victim’s brother, who witnessed the shooting.

According to the preliminary investigation, the suspects allegedly intercepted the two brothers while they were travelling on a motorcycle. Police believe the attackers attempted to rob them, and during the confrontation, one of the suspects fired a gun, fatally injuring the teenager.

Authorities confirmed that the victim died from a gunshot wound. The suspects are currently in custody and are expected to appear in court in the coming days as the investigation continues.

The National Police of the Dominican Republic stated that further details will be released as the case develops. Meanwhile, officials from Global Affairs Canada are providing consular assistance to the victim’s family and are in contact with local authorities.

The tragic incident has raised concerns about tourist safety in the region, especially in areas where visitors may be vulnerable to robbery attempts. Authorities have urged travellers to remain cautious and follow local safety guidelines.

This case remains under active investigation, with officials working to determine all circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure justice for the victim.
