During the ninth Global Coalition meeting for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution in Brussels, Belgium, the State of Qatar reaffirmed its commitment to peace. The gathering included prominent international officials such as Kaja Kallas, EU foreign policy chief, and Belgium's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Maxime Prevost.
Representing Qatar, Acting Charge d'Affaires to the European Union, Sarah bint Ahmed Al Mohannadi, emphasized the nation’s ongoing support for efforts directed at achieving peace in the Middle East.
Al Mohannadi extended her gratitude to the EU for organizing this important meeting and commended Belgium for hosting it. She underscored the need for international engagement to keep the Palestinian issue prominently on the global agenda.
She pointed out that regular coalition meetings are vital for enhancing global coordination and enabling actionable steps toward realizing the two-state solution. This solution envisions an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem designated as its capital, and integrates the right of return for Palestinian refugees as articulated in UN Resolution 194.
Al Mohannadi highlighted Qatar’s constructive role in mediation efforts concerning the Gaza Strip and participation in various international initiatives, including a suggested 20-point framework. She noted Qatar’s commitment to supporting the Sharm El-Sheikh Agreement's implementation.
Furthermore, Qatar announced a financial commitment of $1 billion to bolster efforts toward achieving durable peace, welcoming the formation of the Peace Council and its various committees.
She showed support for UN Security Council Resolution 2803 and a U.S.-backed peace initiative, urging that all UN member states have shared responsibility to follow through. At the same time, she expressed concern regarding Israel's actions amid the ongoing crisis, including ceasefire violations and restrictions on humanitarian aid entering Gaza.
Addressing humanitarian needs, Al Mohannadi called for the complete reopening of the Rafah crossing to enable safe civilian movement and unhindered aid delivery. She cautioned against politicizing border crossings, emphasizing the dire situation of critically ill patients trapped in Gaza.
Moreover, she reaffirmed Qatar’s unwavering support for UNRWA, highlighting that obstructing its operations threatens the global humanitarian framework. Al Mohannadi asserted the need for the international community to ensure the agency's continued functionality without interruptions.
She also denounced Israel’s activities in the West Bank, including settlement expansions and land annexations, categorizing them as breaches of international law that threaten peace initiatives.
Al Mohannadi warned against efforts to impose new realities in the region during ongoing global crises, especially in sensitive areas like the West Bank and Al-Aqsa Mosque, as these could escalate tensions and unrest.
In her concluding remarks, she reiterated that enduring peace requires addressing the conflict's root causes, ending the occupation, and allowing the Palestinian people to exercise their right to self-determination. Qatar remains dedicated to collaborating with international partners to support humanitarian projects, reconstruction efforts, and long-lasting peace initiatives.
