A Punjabi radio and television host has been sentenced to five and a half years in prison in Canada after being convicted in a major drug smuggling case involving methamphetamine.
Sukhvinder Kaur Sangha, aged 47, was sentenced by Justice John Gibb-Carsley in the B.C. Supreme Court on April 10, 2026. The case relates to an incident that took place on October 18, 2021, at the Pacific Border Crossing.
According to court details, Sangha was entering Canada from the United States when officers from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) directed her vehicle for a secondary inspection. Instead of complying, she fled the scene at high speed, triggering a pursuit by border officials.
Authorities eventually stopped and arrested her. A search of the rented vehicle revealed approximately 108 kilograms of methamphetamine hidden in duffle bags inside the trunk. The large quantity of drugs indicated a significant trafficking operation rather than a small-scale offence.
The court considered the seriousness of the crime, including the scale of the drug seizure and the attempt to evade law enforcement. Methamphetamine is a highly dangerous substance, and cases involving such large quantities are treated as major threats to public safety.
