GOA – On October 20, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated Deepavali with armed forces personnel aboard INS Vikrant, shining a light on India’s accomplishments in defeating Maoism and fostering national growth. In a heartfelt open letter to the nation, he remarked that this year's Deepavali feels particularly significant, as lights will illuminate many remote districts now free from Naxalism and Maoist terrorism. PM Modi underscored that eradicating Maoism represents a remarkable victory for the country, showing India’s unwavering commitment to peace, progress, and security.
“For the first time, remote districts across our nation will light lamps. These areas have reclaimed their future from the grip of Naxalism and Maoist violence. Many have chosen the path of development, aligning themselves with our Constitution. This is indeed a proud milestone for the country,” PM Modi wrote. His comments reflect India's success in revamping conflict-affected regions while enhancing law and order. Addressing Operation Sindoor, he praised the armed forces for their commitment to justice, unity, and public protection, marking a pivotal era in India's internal security efforts.
The Prime Minister called on citizens to adopt a Swadeshi lifestyle and contribute to the nation’s well-being. He urged everyone to support domestic products, celebrate linguistic diversity, uphold cleanliness, focus on health, minimize oil consumption, and engage in Yoga. “These initiatives will propel us toward a 'Viksit Bharat',” he asserted. PM Modi’s appeal aligns with the government’s agenda of fostering self-reliance, protecting cultural heritage, and achieving comprehensive national progress. He believes that embracing Swadeshi is essential for economic growth, empowering local enterprises, and ensuring sustainable development for generations to come.
Moreover, PM Modi spotlighted the government’s landmark decision to lower Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates, calling it a major benefit for citizens. “On the first day of Navratri, we rolled out reduced GST rates. During this ‘GST Bachat Utsav,’ citizens are set to save thousands of crores,” he mentioned. The Prime Minister stressed that these GST reforms contribute to economic stability and align with India’s long-term development ambitions.
In his letter, he further emphasized India's growing global stature, asserting that despite international challenges, Bharat stands as a beacon of both stability and empathy. His confidence in India’s trajectory toward becoming the third-largest economy globally in the near future was palpable. By highlighting economic reforms, security advancements, and cultural tenets, PM Modi’s Deepavali message painted a picture of progress, resilience, and unity for all Indians.
