Plan Ahead: PLUS Warns of Heavy Traffic Ahead of Holiday

Post by : Shakul

Motorists are being urged by PLUS Malaysia Berhad to strategically plan their return trips due to the anticipated increase in traffic following the Hari Raya Aidiladha festivities and extended holidays. The highway operator recommends that drivers leverage the MyPLUS-TTA digital scheduling tool to mitigate congestion and promote smoother travel on the nation's busiest expressways.

Between June 4 and June 7, PLUS estimates a significant surge in traffic, identifying these dates as peak travel times. An estimated 2.2 million vehicles are projected to traverse the highway network daily during this period, largely attributed to holiday-goers returning to major urban centers like the Klang Valley after family gatherings and school breaks.

In preparation for this traffic influx, PLUS has advised road users to adhere to suggested travel schedules available on the PLUS mobile app. The MyPLUS-TTA platform offers recommended departure times designed to help spread out traffic throughout the day, which can reduce bottlenecks at busy highway sections and lessen delays.

As part of its proactive traffic management plan, PLUS has implemented Smart Lane operations at 33 key locations along its expressway network. These temporary measures aim to enhance traffic flow and boost road capacity during peak congestion times, with traffic personnel on hand to respond promptly to incidents that may disrupt flow.

PLUS guarantees that all facilities at Rest and Service Areas, as well as lay-bys, will be fully operational at all hours. Essential services including food outlets, prayer rooms, toilets, and convenience amenities will be constantly available to meet the demands of the increased traveler volume during the return holiday period.

Motorists are also reminded to verify their Touch 'n Go card balances and ensure adequate funds in their RFID and JustGO accounts before heading onto the highways. PLUS points out that insufficient toll payment balances can lead to delays at toll plazas, exacerbating congestion during busy travel windows.

For current traffic updates, travelers can utilize the PLUS App, Waze, Google Maps, electronic message boards, national radio stations, and the company's official social media accounts. PLUS emphasizes the importance of responsible journey planning, heeding traffic advisories, and practicing safe driving to ensure a smooth and secure return during this bustling travel season.
