The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) is collaborating with ŌURA, creators of the innovative Oura Ring, to initiate a groundbreaking research programme aimed at advancing preventive healthcare specifically for women.

This initiative focuses on utilizing continuous health data from wearables to empower medical professionals in identifying potential health risks early, thereby improving tailored healthcare solutions. The programme is set to contribute to a long-term partnership that aligns with Abu Dhabi’s ambitions of establishing a prevention-centric, data-informed health ecosystem.

Initially, the research will target critical aspects of women’s health including preconception care, pregnancy management, and conditions like obesity, prediabetes, and heart disease.

The synergy of Abu Dhabi’s robust public health system with real-time data provided by ŌURA’s technology is expected to enhance the understanding of disease evolution and facilitate speedier, customized medical responses.

His Excellency Mansoor Ibrahim Al Mansoori, Chairman of DoH – Abu Dhabi, emphasized that the future of healthcare hinges on the ability to monitor health in real-time across populations. He highlighted that Abu Dhabi is already paving the way for an intelligent health framework poised for this transformation.

He noted that women’s health and fertility are priorities in Abu Dhabi, and the collaboration with ŌURA aims to elevate care for mothers, infants, and families by enabling early risk identification and personalized health solutions.

Tom Hale, CEO of ŌURA, remarked that Abu Dhabi is emerging as a global model for how technology can enhance preventive healthcare. He stated that the foundation of this partnership rests on scientific rigor, data safety, and commitments to long-term health improvements.

According to Hale, the focus on women’s health is crucial as it leads to healthier families and thriving communities. The overarching aim is to cultivate a healthcare paradigm that can eventually benefit preventive systems globally.

Data privacy remains paramount in this partnership. Officials assured that all health information will be securely managed, shared exclusively with user consent and in compliance with UAE laws and global standards. Personal data will be safeguarded under stringent ethical guidelines.

The subsequent phase will involve pilot studies, ethical approvals, and local medical research, aiming for seamless integration into Abu Dhabi’s healthcare framework in the future.

This collaboration marks a significant milestone for ŌURA, bolstering its growth in the UAE and Gulf region through strategic research partnerships and healthcare innovation initiatives.
