Onler Responds to Mary Kom's Divorce Claims with Counter-Allegations

Karung Onler, the ex-husband of Olympic medalist Mary Kom, has denied her accusations that he defrauded her out of significant money and took land purchased from her earnings. He labels her claims as unfounded and counters with serious allegations against the boxing star.

In an interview with IANS, Onler revealed that their marital issues commenced over ten years ago. He claimed that in 2013, Mary Kom was involved with a junior boxer, which soured relationships between their families. This tension eventually led to an uneasy truce.

Onler further alleged that since 2017, Mary Kom has been romantically involved with someone linked to the Mary Kom Boxing Academy. He stated that he possesses WhatsApp conversations and other proof but refrained from speaking out earlier to safeguard their family's reputation.

While Onler expressed no objection to Mary Kom moving forward with her life post-separation, he strongly opposed her public claims of his financial misconduct. "She can remarry if she wishes, but accusations without evidence are unacceptable," he remarked, insisting that Mary Kom should provide documentation if she asserts that he misappropriated funds or property.

On questioning the accusations about his financial status, Onler highlighted his current living situation. Residing in a rented accommodation in Delhi, he invited scrutiny of his bank accounts.

"Mary claims I stole ₹5 crore. If that's the case, she should furnish evidence. Look at my life—I’m not living like someone with millions," he stressed.

Regarding property ownership, Onler stated that any land registered in his name would have been accompanied by legitimate documentation from Mary Kom. He noted that their divorce proceedings are not finalized, emphasizing that his priority has been to avoid courtroom conflicts for the sake of their children.

Onler expressed that public accusations have been unnecessary and deeply hurtful. He reflected on his past support for Mary Kom throughout her boxing career and his instrumental role in establishing the Mary Kom Boxing Academy, voicing his emotional distress over feeling "used and discarded."

On their children, Onler affirmed his rights to maintain relationships with them and contested claims regarding his struggle with alcohol, suggesting these issues shouldn't have been aired publicly.

He alleged that despite an injury before the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Mary Kom travelled to Mumbai and continued a romantic involvement, claiming to possess evidence.

Mary Kom and Onler wed in 2005 and have four children. They finalized their divorce in 2023.

Previously, Mary Kom accused Onler of betraying her trust, alleging he took loans against her property, transferred her assets into his name, and caused her to lose lands in Manipur. She indicated that the gravity of her circumstances became clear during her recovery from injury prior to the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Mary Kom wished to keep the divorce proceedings private but felt compelled to speak out due to what she claimed was ongoing defamation attempts over the past year.

The public dispute continues to attract significant attention, with both parties vehemently refuting each other's allegations.
