The National Library and Archives (NLA) has rolled out its latest project, “Al Majlis,” a vibrant cultural and historical platform aimed at debuting during significant gatherings and national festivities. This venture serves as an interactive venue for knowledge sharing while demonstrating the NLA’s steadfast commitment to preserving the UAE’s rich legacy, securing its national memory, and ensuring that historical records remain accessible through innovative and forward-thinking practices.
As a part of its vision to amplify its cultural impact, the NLA seeks to bolster its prominent role by providing specialized platforms that empower the public and interested organizations to delve into its advanced archival, documentation, and historical research outputs. “Al Majlis” further strengthens the institution’s pivotal role in championing knowledge and safeguarding the Emirati cultural identity.
The inaugural session of “Al Majlis” was launched in collaboration with the Emirates International Endurance Village during the Union Day Cup events. The platform hosted its inaugural lecture, “Purebred Arabian Horses in Abu Dhabi,” presented by esteemed researcher Mohammed Ali Al Matrooshi. An expert in equine lineage and history, Al Matrooshi offered insights into the ancestry of Arabian horses in Abu Dhabi, drawing from preserved manuscripts detailing the Arab world's long-standing affinity for horses and the meticulous documentation of their bloodlines.
The lecture highlighted the importance of Arabian horses in UAE society and leadership, presenting them not only as emblems of strength and valor but also as essential elements of Emirati cultural identity. It showcased how these horses have historically shaped social dynamics and economic activities, cherished across generations.
Through the initiative “Al Majlis,” the NLA is committed to developing cutting-edge platforms that encourage partnerships with national institutions and support knowledge-based initiatives focusing on heritage preservation and advanced technological integration. This aligns seamlessly with the UAE’s vision for sustainable development and cultural leadership.
The platform aspires to enhance national identity and societal consciousness regarding the significance of preserving the UAE’s collective memory. It offers tailored programs and enriching content that engage both current and future generations, allowing them to forge connections with the nation’s cultural heritage.
Ultimately, the National Library and Archives envisions “Al Majlis” as a lighthouse for enhancing knowledge and heritage appreciation, fostering strategic collaborations, and aligning with the UAE’s aspirations for excellence and leadership on a global scale.
