The Miami Open saw major surprises as Britain’s Jack Draper suffered a shock defeat in the second round. Draper lost to American Reilly Opelka in a tight match that ended 7-6(3), 7-6(0).

Draper had come into the tournament with strong form after reaching the quarter-finals at Indian Wells. However, he struggled against Opelka’s powerful serves. Opelka fired 25 aces and 47 winners, giving Draper very few chances to break his serve. Despite not losing his own serve during the match, Draper could not keep up in the tie-breaks.

In another big upset, American player Ethan Quinn defeated 11th seed Casper Ruud. Quinn showed great fighting spirit by saving seven set points and winning 6-4, 7-6(7). This victory marks the biggest win of his career and takes him into the third round of a Masters 1000 event for the first time.

Italy’s Matteo Berrettini also caused an upset by beating 10th seed Alexander Bublik in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

In the women’s matches, Amanda Anisimova secured a hard-fought win against Ajla Tomljanovic. She won 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 after facing a tough second set and a rain delay. Meanwhile, Coco Gauff and Jasmine Paolini both made strong comebacks to win their matches and move ahead in the tournament.

Rain played a big role during the day, causing delays and pushing several matches to the next day. World number one Aryna Sabalenka also had her match moved to a different court due to scheduling changes.

The Miami Open shock results have made the tournament more exciting, with unexpected wins and rising players making their mark on the global stage.
