The Mexican Navy confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that the body of a missing passenger has been recovered following a military aircraft crash, raising the total number of fatalities to six.

The aircraft was carrying eight people when it crashed on Monday. According to officials, two passengers survived the incident and are currently in stable condition while receiving medical care.

President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that a two-year-old child was among those killed. Speaking during her morning press briefing, she expressed condolences to the families of the victims, noting that the flight included medical staff, Navy personnel, and relatives accompanying the child.

Local broadcaster N+ reported that the child had suffered severe third-degree burns from a boiling water accident. Hospitals near the family’s hometown of Escárcega were reportedly unable to treat the injuries, prompting plans to transfer the child to a specialized facility.

The family was later connected with the Michou y Mau Foundation in Mérida, an organization that helps children with serious burns. In some cases, the foundation arranges treatment in hospitals in Galveston, Texas.

Authorities in Galveston have not yet released additional details. The Mexican Navy has also not disclosed the cause of the crash.

President Sheinbaum said a full investigation is underway and confirmed close coordination with US officials to determine what happened during the final 10 minutes when the aircraft lost contact with ground control.

US Ambassador to Mexico Ronald Johnson extended condolences, saying that thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by the tragedy.
