Mets Bolster Pitching with Peralta & Myers Trade

In a significant move, the New York Mets have fortified their pitching lineup by acquiring star pitcher Freddy Peralta and right-hander Tobias Myers from the Milwaukee Brewers. In return, the Brewers seized young prospects Brandon Sproat and Jett Williams, both highlighted as top 100 MLB prospects by Baseball America.

Peralta, age 29, showcased an impressive 2025 season with a 17-6 win-loss record, a 2.70 ERA, and 204 strikeouts over 176⅔ innings, leading the National League in victories and earning a second All-Star nod. Meanwhile, 27-year-old Myers concluded last season with a 1-2 record and a 3.55 ERA across 22 appearances, demonstrating his adaptability as a starter and a reliever.

David Stearns, Mets president of baseball operations, remarked, "Bringing Freddy onboard provides another seasoned starter to guide our rotation. Tobias's dual capacity allows us considerable flexibility in our pitching strategy."

This acquisition follows the Mets' recent signing of free agent Bo Bichette and the addition of center fielder Luis Robert Jr., reflecting their determined strategy to enhance the team.

The Brewers, recognized for trading star pitchers at the end of their contracts, will now depend on two-time All-Star Brandon Woodruff, rookie Jacob Misiorowski, along with Sproat and Williams in their pitching rotation. Brewers president Matt Arnold expressed, "We cherished having Freddy on our team. These trades are challenging but designed to benefit both clubs."

Peralta, who has maintained a clean injury record since 2022, is slated to earn $8 million this season and may hit free agency post-World Series. Myers, with his versatile pitching ability, will vie for a critical position in the Mets' rotation or bullpen.

With this trade, the Mets’ rotation is shaping up to include Freddy Peralta, Nolan McLean, Clay Holmes, David Peterson, Sean Manaea, and Kodai Senga. To accommodate the new players, right-hander Cooper Criswell has been designated for assignment.

This trade signifies yet another proactive offseason effort by the Mets as they strive to strengthen their pitching crew and aim for competitive excellence in 2026.
