As he kicks off his 2026 DP World Tour season, Rory McIlroy is aiming for a remarkable fifth title at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic.

The world’s No. 2 player enjoyed a stellar 2025, achieving the career Grand Slam with a Masters victory, securing his second Amgen Irish Open trophy, and assisting in Team Europe’s Ryder Cup win at Bethpage Black. Additionally, he clinched the Harry Vardon Trophy for the seventh consecutive time, solidifying his reputation as Europe’s leading golfer.

At 36, McIlroy is dedicated to infusing each tournament with energy. “I need to arrive at tournaments with enthusiasm each time,” he remarked. “If I handle the other aspects well, the outcomes will follow naturally.”

His fondness for Dubai is evident. McIlroy's professional journey began at Emirates Golf Club two decades ago as a 16-year-old amateur, and since then, he has celebrated seven victories, eight second-place finishes, and 37 top-10 placements in the UAE. This year, he targets the prestigious Dallah Trophy for an unprecedented fifth time.

Tyrrell Hatton, the defending champion, will also be making his return to Dubai, embarking on his 2026 Race to Dubai. Last year, he secured victory with a narrow one-shot lead over Daniel Hillier. With five Rolex Series titles under his belt, he aims to defend his championship.

Viktor Hovland, a previous titleholder, will commence his 2026 season in Dubai after a commendable top-25 finish at the Nedbank Golf Challenge. The Norwegian has been refining his swing and is hopeful for enhanced consistency this year.

The 2026 Hero Dubai Desert Classic is set to be an exciting showdown, with elite golfers like McIlroy, Hatton, and Hovland vying for early-season success in the UAE.
