Hockey Canada has announced its first six players for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy, and the lineup includes some of the biggest stars in the game. Connor McDavid, Sidney Crosby, and Cale Makar are among the elite group selected to lead Team Canada in the highly anticipated tournament.
This marks the first time since 2014 that NHL players will participate in the Olympics, after missing the 2018 and 2022 games due to league decisions and pandemic disruptions. Hockey fans across Canada are excited to see top talent return to the world stage, representing the nation.
Joining McDavid, Crosby, and Makar are Brad Marchand, Alex Pietrangelo, and Carey Price. These players bring a mix of skill, experience, and leadership to the team. Crosby is a three-time Stanley Cup champion and Olympic gold medalist. McDavid, considered by many as the best current player in the NHL, will be making his Olympic debut.
Hockey Canada said these selections were based on performance, leadership, and international experience. The rest of the roster will be announced closer to the tournament, following further evaluations of players during the 2025–26 NHL season.
Canada is always a top contender at the Olympics, having won nine Olympic medals in men’s hockey, including three golds in the last five appearances. With NHL stars back in the mix, the team is expected to challenge other powerhouses like the U.S., Sweden, and Finland for gold in Milan.
Fans and analysts alike believe that this early roster sends a strong message: Canada is aiming to reclaim hockey supremacy on the global stage. The blend of veteran leadership and young superstar talent is expected to give Canada a serious edge.
The 2026 Winter Olympics will be held from February 6–22 in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.
