Police charge a 45-year-old man with manslaughter after a fight at a Maple Ridge home left a 49-year
A 45-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter following a fatal incident at a home in Maple Ridge, where a fight earlier this month resulted in the death of another man.
According to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, the accused, identified as Darby Robb, was initially charged with assault causing bodily harm. However, after further investigation and the emergence of new evidence, the charge was upgraded to manslaughter.
The incident took place on the evening of March 16 at a residence located in the 23700 block of 110 Avenue. Officers from the Ridge Meadows RCMP responded to reports of a physical altercation at the property. Upon arrival, they found a 49-year-old man in medical distress.
Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures at the scene, but the victim later died from his injuries. Authorities have not publicly released the identity of the deceased.
Investigators believe the case is an isolated incident and have indicated that the individuals involved were known to each other. Police have not suggested any ongoing risk to the public.
The accused remains in custody and is expected to appear in court at a later date. The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Officials have emphasized that cases like this highlight the serious consequences of violent altercations, even when they occur between individuals who are familiar with each other.
