Mandhira Kapur, sibling of the late entrepreneur Sunjay Kapur, has opened up about her brother's split from Bollywood star Karisma Kapoor, shedding light on the family's ongoing legal and emotional battles. Sunjay and Karisma, who wed in 2003 and have two children, finalized their divorce in 2016. Shortly after, in 2017, he married Priya Sachdev, welcoming a son in their new union.
In a heartfelt podcast discussion, Mandhira tackled persistent rumors about Sunjay's treatment of Karisma during their marriage. She firmly rejected such accusations, stating, "He didn’t treat Lolo poorly. Divorces are tough, but that's standard. There's no need to malign the children or ex-spouse. It’s easy to assign blame, yet standing by the truth is what matters most." She underscored that familial disputes can be painful and urged caution against spreading unverified tales that might damage reputations.
Mandhira further shared her regrets over Sunjay's second marriage, revealing, "I persuaded my father to support Sunjay's marriage to Priya, hoping it would bring him joy. The change I've seen in her post-wedding is regrettable. I feel naïve for believing in her intentions." This hints at deeper family discord related to the late businessman’s legacy and decisions.
Further complicating matters, a legal dispute over Sunjay Kapur's estate has surfaced. Karisma Kapoor's children, Samaira and Kiaan, have approached the Delhi High Court to contest a will that they assert Priya Kapur forged to exclude them from their inheritance. The court has sent notices to Priya Kapur and the will's executor, Shradha Suri Marwah, with the next hearing set for December 16. Priya's defense has emphasized that minor spelling errors do not invalidate the will, and Sunjay’s signature is unchallenged. However, Karisma’s children have raised doubts about the signature's authenticity, deepening the conflict.
As these legal proceedings unfold, the Kapur family's situation remains under intense public scrutiny, and many observers are keen to see the resolution of both the legal and personal disputes. Mandhira’s comments not only serve to defend her late brother’s legacy but also offer a glimpse into the tumultuous private dynamics of one of Bollywood's most notable families.
