Singer Lucky Ali has shared his thoughts on the public disagreement with veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar, conveying regret for his abrupt responses and hinting at a wish to make amends. In an interview with Navbharat Times, Lucky Ali acknowledged that while he refrained from using offensive language, he recognizes his rudeness and feels a sense of remorse, particularly given Akhtar's elder status.
“I’ve also stumbled in the past. Sometimes, our reactions are thoughtless,” Lucky stated. “Mujhse bhi shayad ek bar ek buzurg ke prati badttameezee huyi, jiska mujhe afsos hai. Mauka mile toh maafi zaroor mangunga (I too may have shown rudeness towards an elder, which I regret. If I have the chance, I will certainly apologize).”
The disagreement escalated last month after Lucky Ali criticized Javed Akhtar for an older video in which the lyricist purportedly made a provocative comment about Hindu-Muslim relations. In response to a tweet claiming Akhtar urged Hindus not to emulate Muslims, Lucky reacted sharply with the words, “Don’t become like Javed Akhtar, never original and ugly as f**k.” However, he later clarified, stating that he meant to convey that arrogance isn’t appealing, and he regrets if his words offended anyone’s sensibilities.
When recounting his reaction, Lucky Ali explained, “When someone repeatedly comments on your community or faith, it can be upsetting, especially when that person is as significant and responsible as he is. I erred in my reaction. Although I didn’t use abusive language, the situation grew larger than expected. If anyone has been hurt, I sincerely apologize, but all parties share responsibility.”
Speaking calmly about the incident, Javed Akhtar responded, “I should regard Lucky Ali’s views cautiously. While I don’t share his perspective, it’s great to know he has his opinions.”
Despite the disagreement, both artists seem eager to rise above the incident, with Lucky Ali taking accountability and hoping for a chance to apologize.
